Coalition of Celebrant Associations

Australia’s Peak Celebrant Body

Second Public Consultation now open

The second public consultation starts for the Celebrancy (and other VET) qualifications and units will run until 15 May 2015.

Now closed.

The qualification level will not affect existing marriage celebrants, only new marriage celebrants. However the qualification will be available for those who would like to do further study in the future.

QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW:

This proposed qualification has 13 competency units -
including: 6 Core units,  a choice of 3 out of 6 celebrancy (marriage and funeral) units and a choice of 4 elective units.

  • See the specific celebrancy units - below
  • See the related non-celebrancy units in the Cross Sector Units pdf file - below.

QUALIFICATION LEVEL - CERTIFICATE IV or DIPLOMA?

Basically this Consultation paper states there has not been a consensus between the stakeholders as to the level for new celebrants training.

Your feedback to the Skills Council is important.

The crux of this Second Public Consultation is: At what level should the qualification be for new and aspiring celebrants?

Your view is requested:

  • Is this qualification to be a Diploma of Celebrancy as recommended by CoCA (Coalition of Celebrant Associations) and FCAA (Funeral Celebrants Australia Association) representatives?

AND/OR

  • Would you support the Attorney-General's Department choosing part of this Diploma (units which would be the equivalent of a Certificate IV) for appointment of new Commonwealth Marriage Celebrants?

OR

  • Do you support this qualification remaining as a Certificate IV in Celebrancy as recommended by the AGD (Attorney-General's Department) and AFCC (Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants) representatives?

If you agree with the CoCA Representatives' rationale for a Diploma level Qualification, you can give your support as follows ....

It can be a bit tricky to find your way in ... but please be patient ... and here's how ...

I am a marriage/family/funeral (delete items not applicable) celebrant of X years. I support the CoCA recommendation for a Diploma level qualification for all the reasons stated in their submission.

In particular, I support the CoCA recommendation for a celebrancy specific unit for ceremonies and services related to loss and grief.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
