Coalition of Celebrant Associations

Australia’s Peak Celebrant Body

What are the wedding work opportunities for celebrants?

To become a successful celebrant, you need to be prepared to commit to a substantial set up cost, and further ongoing costs.

Statistics* show that the average number of marriage ceremonies a marriage celebrant can expect to conduct is about 10 per year, and as more celebrants are authorised, this figure is less.

Before you decide, you have to make a business plan and be aware that each wedding will take you between 10 – 20 hours work to deliver a professional result.

The Attorney-General’s Marriage section has a page titled Becoming A Celebrant which provides invaluable information for those considering entering this profession. It is vital that you read this information carefully and consider the important social, legal and financial obligations that will be required of you when you are authorised.

* The statistics on numbers of marriages conducted by Civil Celebrants (ABS figures 82000 marriages pa with over 8,600 celebrants Australia-wide) show that the average number of ceremonies is 9.5 weddings per celebrant per year. @ July 2014
