2011 Budget Announcement on Celebrant Fee

RECENT NEWS!!

In the Federal budget brought down in Parliament in May 2011, a number of reforms were proposed to the Marriage Celebrant Program.

The Department of Finance document (a Regulation Impact Statement RIS) that was put forward in support of the proposed fee describes the current problems and concerns with the program and outlines a set of options for remedy of this situation. You can read this document here.

CoCA and the associations spent quite some time in discussing the proposal and are of the belief that the option chosen will not deliver the improvements in professionalism of celebrants as outlined in the RIS.

CoCA in consultation with the member associations prepared a response to the RIS that was delivered to the AGD and will be discussed at our next meeting with them in October 2011.
