CURRENT PROPOSED
Certificate IV in Celebrancy Diploma in Professional Celebrancy
Basic structure:
  • Level 4
  • 13 units
  • 7 celebrancy specific units
    - 2 core + 5 electives
 Basic proposed changes:
  • 4 marriage specific
  • 1 marriage specific (units streamlined into 4 Core ceremony specific units with Marriage specific tasks retained in this new unit)
Note: Unit on professionalism recommended.

  • 4 funeral units
2 funeral units + 1 in core (CHCCS426A retained but moved to core)  Note: WFSFNL301A removed as for funeral arrangers not celebrants

This qualification covers the broad based skills and knowledge that underpin a range of celebrancy roles,  as well as addressing specific legislative responsibilities of marriage celebrants and providing a range of electives representing different aspects of celebrancy work. Celebrants may specialise in a range of areas of celebrancy as well as developing skills to mange their own business operations.
  Occupational title includes:

• Marriage celebrant
• Funeral celebrant
• Loss and grief celebrant
• Civil celebrant
• Community celebrant
• Family celebrant
• Celebrant

This qualification reflects the role of a professional celebrant. Celebrants may specialise in a range of areas as well as developing skills to manage their own celebrancy private practice.Job titles may include:

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification considerations

This qualification addresses the specific legislative responsibilities of marriage celebrants and is linked to national registration requirements

Packaging Rules13 units must be selected for this qualification including:
  • 5 compulsory units
  • 8 elective units

Marriage celebrancy work
The following electives are required to apply for registration as a marriage celebrant with the Australian Attorney-General’s Department.

  1. CHCCEL402A  Establish and maintain knowledge of legal responsibilities of a marriage celebrant # pre-requisite for all other marriage units – DELETED 
  2. CHCCEL403A Develop an effective relationship with a marrying couple - DELETED
  3. CHCCEL404A Plan a marriage ceremony in line with legal requirements – DELETED
  4. CHCCEL405A Conduct and review a marriage ceremony in line with legal requirements - DELETED

The following units are required for marriage celebrancy work. This unit is required to  apply for registration as a marriage celebrant with the Australian Attorney -General’s  Department.
