Hello Rona,
The Coalition of Celebrant Associations (CoCA) Inc., the peak body for celebrants, is the only Australian association of celebrant associations.
Conflict of Interest and Benefit to Business Policy
The revised Conflict of Interest and Benefit to Business (COI and B2B) Policy was released on the Attorney’s website during September 2017. Basically there were many services which were once “banned” for celebrants to consider when dealing with their clients. It is now possible to provide a “one-stop shop” for couples, including such things as:
Being their master of ceremonies, providing a hire service for suits and dresses, providing a venue, running a car hire business, doing make-up . . . just to name a few.
CoCA responded to the new release with the following motion:
CoCA does not support the September 2017 guidelines and position paper on the Conflict of Interest and Benefit to Business because the Policy does not uphold the professionalism of celebrants and the consultation process was flawed.
CoCA appreciates that approximately 30% of celebrants who responded to the AGD Survey at the end of last year may welcome this change. CoCA delegates were concerned about a number of issues with the revised policy. Read more
If you are looking additional information, please speak to a CoCA delegate.
